• High yielding crop varieties tolerant to environmental stresses i.e. Drought, High Temperature
• Efficient technology for water harvesting, moisture conservation and restoration of soil fertility
• Deep ploughing, Green manuring, Crop rotations.
• Appropriate cropping systems for different ecological regions in barani tract according to rainfall pattern.
• Intercropping studies on cereals, food legumes and oilseed crops.
• Development of more efficient technology for moisture conservation through different tillage implements.

Technologies developed

• Wheat crop, in barani areas, usually faces drought stress resulting in severe foot rot and termite attack. It causes drastic seeding mortality and yield reduction. Pre-sowing seed treatment with confidor 70 ws @ 7g kg-1 of seed significantly reduced seedling mortality (0.012%) over the untreated seed (27.56%).
• Deep cultivation with mouldboard plough prior to monsoon for wheat and in winter for groundnut showed 27 and 37% increase in yield of wheat and groundnut respectively over conventional tillage practices in the area. Now the deep tillage is gaining popularity in the rainfed region.
