INTRODUCTION

Punjab Agriculture College and Research Institute was established in 1906.Ayub Agricultural Research Institute was established in 1961-62 to expand and accelerate research activities.

FUNCTIONS OF RESEARCH WING

Genetic improvement of crop varieties for yield, quality and tolerance against biotic (diseases, pests, weeds) and abiotic stresses (drought, heat, frost ect.)
Development of production technology
Protection from diseases and insect/pests using both chemical and non-chemical means (IPM)
Introduction of new industrial/food plants (flowers, essential oils and medicinal plants)
Better understanding and utilization of soil and water relations of plants
Preservation/processing of agricultural products
Post Harvest Tech. of fruit and vegetable crops
