Agriculture
is an important sector of Punjab’s economy. It employees 48.4
percent of the labor force and accounts for 24 percent of GDP- Agriculture
contributes 68 percent of export earrings Punjab is rich in natural
agricultural resources. It has large areas of deep soils favorable
topography, suitable climate conditions and water resources. Out
of 16.1 million hectare of cultivated land 12.4.are being cultivated.
Increasing population and limited resources are global issues. The
population are more serious in developing Countries, with no exception
of ourselves. To meet the needs of burgeoning population agriculture
production will have to be increased manifold with in few years.
This task can only be achieved through narrowing the gap between
for hectare yields obtained at experimental stations and those of
average farms.
Agricultural production is a very complex system. It depends on
several inter related components such development of appropriate
production technology, dissemination of modern technology to the
end users, and the formulation of farmer friendly agricultural policies..
Dissemination of appropriate technology to the farmer’s is
of vital importance if benefit is to be derived from technological
advances moreover, the gap exists between the research findings
and farmers’ adoption needs appropriate rectification by the
adaptive research .
This task is carried out through agriculture extension system in
Punjab.
