COTTON APHID
Aphis gossypii (Aphididae : Homoptera)


IDENTIFICATION

- Adults winged/wingless, yellowish green in colour

- Soft bodied, small insect, very slow moving

- Two cornicles present

REPRODUCTION
- Oviparous

- Viviparous

- Active period: September October

DAMAGE
- Both nymphs/adults suck cell sap

- Excretes honeydew, sooty mould develops, hinders photosynthesis

- Reduces plant vigour and yield

- Reduces lint quality

INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT (IPM)

- Clean cultivation

- Stop fertilizer after 15th August

- Avoid spray, if coccinellids, spiders present
