Research Activities

Vegetable Research Institute, Faisalabad is conducting research not only for crop production of Rabi and Kharif season crops but also for the production of off-season on the production of off-season vegetable to prolong the supply period. However, main focus of the Institute is breeding high yielding, better quality and disease/pest resistant hybrids/varieties of various winter and summer vegetable crops. The researchers are also busy to mitigate the economic plight of small farmers by pursuing studies on tunnel culture and multiple cropping as these ventures are highly profitable and labour intensive.

Due attention is being paid to produce bulk quantity of pre-basic seed of various vegetable crops/varieties for further multiplication at Punjab Seed Corporation Farm and private seed companies. With the establishment of Foundation Seed Cell unit at Vegetable Research Institute, the Institute will provide pre-basic seed to the seed companies for its multiplication and supply availability of certified seed to the farmers.

The efforts are also being made to improve the plant protection measures for producing quality vegetables/vegetable seeds.
