Function:
  • Pathological research is aimed at minimizing plant losses caused by fungi, bacteria, nematode and viruses by identifying the causative agents, their biology, mode of infection and appropriate control measures.
  • Collaborative research area is screening of resistant varieties against major pathogens. This helps breeders in evolving resistant varieties.
  • Evaluation of efficacy of new fungicides against diseases.
  • Management of tree decline.
  • Transfer of disease management technology through electronic and print media to farmers.
  • Production of pre-basic seed potato through tissue culture.
  • To impart general and specialized training in the latest techniques of insect pests/disease control to the employees of Agriculture Department (Ext. Wing) and field staff of sugar mills.
