Soil Salinity and sodicity are the major problems of present agriculture in Pakistan. According to the estimates, 2.66 m ha are affected in the province of the Punjab to varying degrees while the affected area of the country has been reported as 6.68 m ha. The salt affected area within irrigated agriculture of Punjab has been reported as 1.7 m ha. The yield of crops is curtailed to various extents while in acute cases the lands become totally barren. Therefore, the problem needs extensive investigations for which Soil Salinity Research Institute; Pindi Bhattian was established in 1982-83 by the Government of the Punjab. Soil salinity research Institute, Pindi Bhattian has been assigned the following research objectives.
