On Farm Water Management (OFWM) Program was initiated during 1976-77 to implement a water conservation strategy at the farm level. It mainly comprises of controlling conveyance losses in distribution network and increasing application efficiency of crop irrigation. Improvement of community watercourses has remained key component of all OFWM projects implemented with assistance of the World Bank, USAID, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Overseas Economic Corporation Fund (OECF) now Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), Asian Development Bank (ADB) etc. Implementation of various OFWM schemes has proved to be very effective and beneficial approach. On Farm Water Management technologies package has, therefore, been widely accepted by the farmers, planners, and policy makers at national as well as international level.
