Methodology Acreage Survey (Girdawari) And Average yield Forecasting

The survey work is carried out in the randomly selected 1240 sample villages. One Crop Reporter Covers one sample village. The Crop Reporter conducts field to field crop inspection (Girdawari) twice during a season; one at the beginning of the season / just after the completion of sowing indicating method of sowing i.e. line / broadcast
and the second before harvest indicating varieties sown. Besides these one special crop inspection (Girdawari) is also carried out to assess area under sugarcane and Potato (Kitchen) Crop.

In order to estimate the yield per acre of crop, an area frame is prepared which includes all the concern crop growing fields in sample villages and in each village three fields (each field has two plots = six plots) measuring 20’x15’ / 16’x12’ for major and minor crops respectively are randomly located through a very scientific method. The crop of these plots is harvested by the Crop Reporter when the crop is fully matured. The produce of the plots is threshed, winnowed, cleaned and weighed carefully.
