Preparation of Area and Production Estimate
 
FIRST ESTIMATE
First estimate provides area under the crop. It is prepared on the basis of girdawari/crop acreage survey in sample villages just after completion of sowing of crops. The first estimate is approved by the Secretary Agriculture and issued by Director of Agriculture Crop Reporting Service according to crop forecast calendar.
 
SECOND ESTIMATE
Second estimate of crop provides both, area and production. It is prepared on objective basis (crop cut results) and also by conducting growers opinion survey, taking into consideration availability / quality of seed, climatic conditions, inputs availability, irrigation water supply condition and visual judgment of field staff. 
This estimate is approved by the Secretary Agriculture and issued by Director of Agriculture Crop Reporting Service according to crop forecast calendar.
 
FINAL ESTIMATE
The final estimate of area and production is prepared on the basis of :-
                                 I)      Area under the crop supplied by the Revenue Department on complete census. 
                               II)      Average yields are worked out through objective crop cutting experiments conducted in 1240 randomly selected villages/fields in the province by the field staff of Crop Reporting Service.
 After approval of Secretary Agriculture, this estimate is submitted to The Punjab Agricultural Statistics Coordination Board (PASCB) headed by Chairman P&D for final Approval, and then this estimate is sent to Federal Government (MINFA) to their release for publication and other data user agencies.
