COTTON THRIPS
Thrips tabaci (Thripidae : Thysanoptera)

IDENTIFICATION

Adults minute cylindrical
Brown to yellowish in colour
Males rare and wingless
Females with 4 long and narrow wings, each with arginal fringe of hairs.
Silvery appearance on attacked leaves
Stunted plant growth, curling of leaves

LIFE HISTORY
Egg : 5 – 9 days
Nymph : 4 – 5 days
Pupa : 2 – 4 days
Adult : 5 – 7 days
Generations : 5 – 8 per year
Active period : Through out the year

DAMAGE
Sucks cell sap.

Serious on early stage of crop.

Infested leaves becomes silvery white

Plants become weak, stunted growth and curling of leaves
