Research Activities
- Collection, maintenance and evaluation of germplasm of major air zone crops i.e. chickpea, mung, and wheat. The material is collected form exotic and local sources having high yield potential, better adaptation, diseases and insect pests resistance, drought and heat/frost tolerance, uniform maturity and better quality etc.
-
- Hybridization of desirable genotypes and maintenance of crossing block to attempt fresh crosses amongst parents possessing desirable traits like adaptability, resistance to diseases/insect pest, drought tolerance, high yield potential uniform maturity, good quality etc. and selection of desirable recombinants from segregating populations for the development of desirable genotypes.
-
- Varietal yield trials received from different research organizations such as NARC, NIAB, ICRISAT, ICARDA and AARI etc. and local are conducted for study of their yield performance, diseases/insect pest resistance drought and heat/frost tolerance, uniform maturity and wider adaptation.
-
- Standardization of site specific crop production technologies for cereals and food legumes under arid zone eco-conditions.
-
- Screening of genotypes of cereals and food legumes crops against different diseases.
-
- Efficacy of different insecticides for the control of insect pests on different arid zone crops.
-
- Collection of various drought prone corps types for their introduction, selection, acclimatization under stress conditions and study their adaptability in arid climate.
