Varieties evolved
Fruit plants being perennial in nature entail longer period of time to enter in the fruiting phase, hence, for varietal evaluation, long gestation period is the major impediment in the quik release of furit varieties. Moreover, in citrus conventional breeding encounter the problem of poly embrony, in breeding depression and identification of the zygotic seedlings. In the face of such difficulties the more emphsis was placed on the introduction and acclimatization of a wide range of citrus varieties. The detail of efforts and the outcome on varietal development is given here under:-

Development of Nucellar Plants
Total no. of 88 nucellar progeny of different citrus groups was produced under this Directorate.
Rootstock Evaluation
A broad based rootstock evaluation programme for improving the yield and fruit quality is under way. Carrizo sitrange, Troyer sitrange, volkamirana, Mithi, kharna khata and gadha dahi have been evaluated for salustiana sweet orange Carrizo and troyer Citrange recommended under moderate pH levels. With the use of these root stocks soil born diseases/ pests can be effectively ward off.
Development of Double Grafting Technique
Through using graft wood of quality improving citrus species i.e. Sweet as inter stocks lime, C-35 Citrange, Carrizo Citrange better internal quality character have been achieved as the TSS levels have been raised up to 16 %. This technique is worth of commercialization.
Micronutrients Studies (Kinnow mandarin)
Zn and B through foliar application have resulted in better yield and quality characters in calcareous soil> 5% caco3 organic matter 0.87 % having soil pH above 8.
Disease and pest Studies
Causes of citrus decline
Control of citrus scabe disease through binomyl, topspin-M and copper oxychloride through respective doses 1 gm, 1.5 gm and 2.5 gm/lit proved effective citrus prevalence studied in sectional orchard where Hamlin and Ruby Blood were found susceptible.
Citrus Canker
Fungicides and antibiotic were tested for this efficacy where streptomycin sprayed at 1 gm/lit proved effective on grapefruit
Trimoltox @ 205 gm/lit proved the next better treatment.
Irrigation
Furrow irrigation system proved better as compared to flood irrigation and 60% water can be saved through this practice.
Phytophthora foot disease problem was better address by furrow system
